Family Documentary Photography- Malibu Travel session

September 20, 2017

This summer I had the chance to shoot a Family Documentary Photography session in Malibu with some fabulous clients who were vacationing there and wanted me to document their time together before summer ended. It was a perfect day and we had the beach pretty much to ourselves. I shot Kim and Charles’ wedding last summer, so it was even more special to re-connect with them and to see them interact with their kids. It was one of my first travel sessions, and the longest family Day in Life Shoot I have done yet. I am smitten! Most of my sessions are 2-4 hours but I will definitely be offering some limited half day and full Day in The Life sessions from now on.

The sea always soothes me. The smell of the air, the sound of the waves coming right underneath the house, rocking us to sleep…the sun and light. It was glorious.

The benefit to having a travel photo session is I get to really SEE you and your family recreating together. Even though it’s not your normal environment, usually everyone is a bit more relaxed on vacation. Mom and dad are still working hard but usually there is space and time for them to break the routine and hopefully PLAY.

And play we did…(yep, I definitely got wet and jumped in the waves with them!)

If your family has a special place you love to spend time together, a place that’s new to you or a place you return to over and over, maybe it’s time to create a photographic story of it. Whether it’s hiking in the mountains, playing in the snow or swimming in the sea, I’d love to photograph you together.

Contact me to find out more about a custom storytelling session designed to capture your family’s memories. We might just get some sand in our shorts.
