I can feel it coming. It’s in the 80’s this week. Positively summer weather for the Pacific Northwest. Which means I need to start making my Summer Family Activities list. Every May I get a teeny bit freaked out about the fact that June is right around the corner and that means four children will possibly probably be looking to me as their cruise director for the next few months. Well, I realized the other day that I only have a few more of these summers with all of them. Before she learns to drive. Before the boys are off at baseball camps and practices and clinics and with friends, etc. It might mean schlepping them all to the grocery store before we head to the beach, or whatever. But I know the day is coming too quickly when I will think to myself, “remember when they were ALL home ALL the time?”
So, as I stare at the increasingly full calendar and think about how we are going to fill our days, I’m going to just leave as much as I can blank. To fly kites in the front yard. To have a picnic dinner. To blow dandelions and bubbles. May your early summer days be full of shirtless little kids, barefeet, backyard pools, tire swings, crazy hair and gorgeous gorgeous light. What fabulous things are on your summer bucket list?
